Published Saturday July 23

SCOTTS VALLEY >> Capitola resident Rhoda Collins is one of dozens of members of an exclusive local chapter of women who trace their bloodline to early American patriots.

The Santa Cruz chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution which renowned its hundreth anniversary at the Pasatiempo Golf Course on Sat is part of a national service nonprofit whose motto is “God, Home and Country.”

To join, members must prove at least one ancestor was a patriot who supported American independence from England in the 1770s.

“My grandmother is one of my patriots,” remarked Collins. “Now don’t laugh now. She provided brandy to the cause, and it’s documented.”
